Proposed Conversion to Aldridge UTC Darwen

Aldridge Education is proposing to convert Darwen Aldridge Enterprise Studio into a University Technical College (UTC), to be known as Aldridge UTC Darwen (UTCD). This builds on the school’s strong technical, employer-led curriculum and will further strengthen pathways into higher education, apprenticeships and employment.

The conversion would:

• Enhance recognition as a specialist technical provider
• Strengthen employer and industry partnerships
• Expand collaboration through the national UTC network
• Deepen links with the University of Lancashire, supporting clear progression routes

There will be:

• No changes to the current curriculum or student courses
• No changes to staff roles or contracts

A refreshed uniform is also proposed, designed to be comfortable, inclusive and professional, with a gradual transition over one academic year.

A three-week consultation will run from Monday 27 April to Friday 15 May.
