Teaching approach to students with SEN
Teachers are responsible and accountable for the progress and development of all the students in their class. High-quality teaching is our first step in responding to students who have SEND. This will be personalised for individual students and will include;
• Highly focused lesson design with sharp learning objectives
• High demands of student involvement and engagement with their learning
• High levels of interaction for all students
• Appropriate use of questioning, modelling and explaining on the part of the teacher, • An emphasis on learning through dialogue, with regular opportunities for students to talk both individually and in groups
• An expectation that students will accept responsibility for their own learning and work independently
• Regular use of encouragement and authentic praise to engage and motivate students
